Earth Week 2021

Our learners chose to dedicate each day of Earth Week to protect the Earth, targeting 5 specific areas – Water, Power, Plants & Food, Zero Waste and Insects.

Day 1: Nexus Swim-a-thon

All Primary classes took part in a school-wide swimathon during their swimming lessons to raise awareness for charity Books and Bread for Kenya, which support communities that are in desperate need of basic resources. This activity was organised by a group of Year 4 learners to raise awareness of the importance of clean water.

Day 2: Teddies On Tuesday

Organised by our Year 5 learners, learners were encouraged to bring their favourite teddies to school, to raise awareness on how climate change is impacting all habitats and creatures – particularly the bears. Take a peek into our Kindy leaners’ Teddy Bear picnic during their morning tea break!

Day 3: Planting & Gardening

Our learners were invited to plant a seed of their choice, such as papaya and lime, and provide them an opportunity to contribute to nature. These pots will be part of our school’s greenery landscape, where they will be placed in and around our campus to provide us with delicious tropical fruits!

Day 4: Rubbish Free Tuesday

Learners were encouraged to make their lunch rubbish-free, towards a zero waste environment at Nexus. Our Nursery learners also looked into how much rubbish a simple lunch could actually incur. Take a look at what went down during their lessons here! A beach cleanup at East Coast Park was also held to support our local environment.

Day 5: Insect Dress Up Day

Wrapping up Earth Week, our learners came dressed as their favourite friendly bugs, to focus on the importance of insects for our planet’s ecosystem. Check out the creative costumes our learners came dressed in!

Green Town 2021

Our very own Year 9s created an impressive eco display aptly named ‘Green Town 2021’, where they were tasked to present their exhibits to learners and teachers, and share their thought process behind their designs. This project was based on an interdisciplinary unit, combining Science, English and Digital Skills. Our learners learnt to explore and design their very own green buildings and design models of sustainable structures.
